Sorbitol is an organic chemical compound from the sugar group, hexahydroxyl alcohol. Colourlesscrystalline substance with a sweet taste, well soluble in water. It is used as a filler and stabilizer in food products and also improves their moisture and texture.

It is hygroscopic, which is why it allows water to be kept inside the product. Sorbitol does not participate in Maillard reactions, i.e. browning reactions occurring at high temperatures, characteristic for bakery products.

It has a thickening and clarifying effect in cosmetic products. It prevents from drying and improves moisturizing properties. Sorbitol is a weak allergen so it can be used by people with sensitive skin.

USE: 

Used as an E420 food additive (e.g. sweetener and humectant), as well as in the production of detergents, varnishes, synthetic resins, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
